Obeying the Truth

JAMES 1:22-23 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.” (KJV)

The bible is truly a unique book. It’s a collection of 66 books written over a period of 1500 years by some 40 authors who were from 13 countries on 3 separate continents. It claims to be the word of God some 2700 times. It has been translated into about 1500 languages. From this book comes all the information that we need about God, Jesus, Heaven, Hell, Salvation, and Eternity. It also contains numerous fulfilled prophesies about various men and nations down through the ages and more importantly it contains over 300 prophesies that declare that the Messiah was going to come to earth to live, die and rise again. It is the most powerful work of literature ever written because every bit of it is truth. And that’s why Satan hates it so much. If it was just a history book, or a collection of rules and regulations, Satan probably wouldn’t be to bothered by it, but this is God’s book, this is God’s truths, and this truth of God has the power within it’s pages to change us and set us free. That’s what were expecting as we progress  with this blog. Believing that the word of God is true and applying the truths to our life’s. I recently read a story about a church who accepted a new pastor. The first Sunday was a dynamic message that blessed the entire congregation. The second Sunday, he preached again, though they still liked the message they felt like they were not as blessed as before. The third Sunday they noticed something was wrong, they realized that the pastor was preaching the same message every Sunday. ( Imagine that, it only took three Sundays!)  They came to the new pastor and asked him why was he preaching the same message every Sunday? The pastor answered, I will preach that message again and again until I see the people obeying it. Think about it for a moment, how often do we hear the truth, yet do nothing with it. The very truth that can change your life forever most often goes in one ear and out the other. Nothing pleases the Lord more than to see His children in obedience to the Word of God. Our strength and wisdom is not found in ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News or CNN. Our only strength comes from the Word of God and if you don’t stay in the word the word will not stay in you. The word has to be more than a book on the shelf. It’s got to be opened more than on Sundays. For it’s the vehicle to get you out of your troubles. If you want to know who God is it’s found in the word. If you want to know about a relationship with Jesus Christ it’s in the word. If you want to know about the future it’s found in the word. Anything you want to know about your journey here on earth and for all eternity is found in the word. The word of God tells us the truth of a happy marriage, it tells us the truth of  how to raise your children, it tells us the truth of how to love one another, it tells us the truth of how to become a believer and how to stay a believer in Jesus Christ. How is this done, by being not just a hearer of the word but a doer of the word. So let’s begin to start our journey down life’s pathway by obeying the one thing we know will work, the truth of THE WORD OF GOD.
