The Truth of Forgiveness

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

There was a news story some time back that was following up on a innocent woman who was shot as she was caught in the cross fire of two men. She became paralyzed by the injury. The story was about the huge change in her life since the shooting. And she made a statement. I haven’t forgiven them yet, but I know I have to, because if I don’t God won’t forgive me. She was in pain, her dreams were lost and I’m sure some had told her, you don’t have to forgive they ruined your life, it will never be the same. But she knew the truth and beyond the emotion of seeing a terrible crime like this, the truth is that unless we love and forgive those who have harmed us, who have sinned against us, God will not forgive us. We must forgive to be forgiven. Mark 11:25-26 ” And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Paul says in Colossians 3:12-14 ” Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. Forbearing one another and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any, even as Christ forgave you so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” We go back to this self-sacrificial love that we mentioned in previous posts. True forgiveness only comes when we have this kind of love in our life’s. If it’s not in the heart it’s not true forgiveness. True forgiveness never brings it up again. True Forgiveness doesn’t hold it over there head every chance they get. True Forgiveness is just that True Forgiveness. If you are a Christian today, you have been forgiven of all your sins, everything you did to hurt God has been washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed at Calvary. He don’t bring them up any longer. The devil will throw them back in your face but not God. For the truth says in Micah 7:19 ” He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Hebrews 8:12 ” For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” I  know we have been done wrong. I know we are hurting because of what others have said and done. But so did Christ when you did Him wrong. Everytime you did something against Him it hurt Him, it was painful to Him. Yet He gave Himeself so that you could have forgiveness. He laid  His self aside for the well being of your soul. And in like manner if we never develop this self-sacrificial love for all mankind, even those who are are enemies we will not grow spiritually in the Lord, our walk with God will be hindered and as we see in the beginning scripture, If we can’t forgive then Christ won’t forgive us. Unforgiveness is a poison that if we allow it into our life’s it will destroy us spiritually. In order for us to truely be set free, we have to forgive those who have done us wrong. If any of us have any unforgiveness in our hearts right know, I urge you to pray and ask God to help you to forgive, to set you free from unforgiveness.

“To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will recieve untold peace and happiness.’                  Robert Mueller
