Matthew 5:41 ” And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
If you didn’t read the last blog then I encourage you to read it before you read this one. In this blog we will go even deeper into what the bible teaches considering being a second mile Christian. It’s not hard to go that first mile in our Christian walk but as you move past the first mile and into the second you will find it a little more difficult. As we see the first mile is forgiveness but the second mile is forgiveness 7×70. Matthew 5:40 says the first mile is if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, give it to them. But the 2nd mile Matthew says Let him have thy cloak also. In this same sermon Jesus preaches so much that we need to hear. He gives us so many truths that we must be living by in our lives. In verse 21 Matthew says You have heard that it was said by Him of old time, thou shalt not kill. That’s the first mile. But the 2nd mile is verse 22, whosoever is angry with his brother is in danger of Judgement, and whosoever shall say Raca is in danger of the council. Raca was a word of insult. A word to make someone feel inferior. It murders a persons spirit. And whosoever shall say thou fool shall be in danger of hell fire. That’s saying I hate you. Hate is such a strong word that severely wounds a persons spirit. I hope your seeing if Christians are to be known by their love than we need to be living in this 2nd mile. In verse 27 Matthew says Jesus said you have heard that it was said by them of old time. Thou shalt not commit adultery. That’s the first mile. The second mile is verse 28, Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already. The second mile is not even look and lust at a woman or man, it goes both ways. Not even if your single and especially if your married. For adultery destroys not only from the inside it destroys the outside. But let me move on, as it goes back to self-sacrificial love. It moves us past ourselves into a place of true blessing. Our lives must not be about us, it must be about Him. Our life must be about glorifying Him. And it only happens by getting this self-sacrificial love in our hearts. It happens by going this second mile. You say well I don’t know about this second mile, is it even worth it, and I want to tell you it’s worth every step of the way. For as you follow the truth and the blessings of God flow you will be set free spiritually in your life. You see you are holding back God’s blessings by not going the 2nd mile. What it really boils down to is the 2nd mile Christianity is living the same lifestyle that Jesus lived. When we go the second mile we are imitating Christ who everyday of his life lived beyond the minimum standard. He took no short cuts, He cut no corners, He held nothing back. He lived His life and finished His race by going the 2nd mile. The cross of Calvary laid far beyond the first mile marker. As His sacrifice was real and it was costly. And He did it for the whole world, and now He calls us to come follow Him. Live as I lived in that 2nd mile.
The 2nd mile is the difference between living as a good person and enjoying life as a child of God. Mel Blackaby
